Two trusted methods to lock in the tempo of any track, by tapping along or with a free browser-based BPM analyzer.

How to Find the BPM of a Song (Free, In Your Browser)

BPM (beats per minute) is the heartbeat of every track. Match it correctly and your samples sit on the grid; get it wrong and everything drags or rushes. Here's how to pin down the BPM of any song.

The fastest way: drop it in a BPM finder

Free BPM tools analyze the audio's transient peaks (kicks, snares, claps) to estimate tempo. The one below works entirely in your browser, your file never leaves your device.

BPM & Key Finder

Detect tempo and musical key from any audio file.

The classic way: tap-along

  1. Listen for the kick drum or strongest pulse.
  2. Tap a key to the beat for at least 8 bars.
  3. Average BPM = (taps ร— 60) รท seconds elapsed.

Half-time and double-time errors are common. If your tool says 75 BPM and the song feels fast, it's probably 150 BPM. If it says 170 and feels slow, try 85.

Common BPM ranges by genre

  • Hip-Hop / Trap: 70โ€“100 BPM (often felt at 140โ€“200 BPM)
  • House / Tech-House: 120โ€“128 BPM
  • Techno: 125โ€“135 BPM
  • Drum & Bass: 165โ€“180 BPM
  • Pop / R&B: 90โ€“115 BPM
